“I think our music is timeless, actually,” Wagner says, defending the notion that they’re pure musical nostalgists. “It’s based on a lot of musical icons from American musical history, but is very much a product of the present. We use old sounds, borrow from Buddy Holly or Phil Spector, but we use electronic instruments, and record our albums on computer. We’re not recreating the past, but marrying old elements with new.”
